Feast of the
Assumption of Mother Mary -August 15th
Belief
in Mother Mary's bodily assumption to heaven goes back to apostolic
times. The Feast of the Assumption is a very old feast of the Church,
celebrated universally by the sixth century.
The
feast day recalls the spiritual and physical departure of our mother
of Christ from the earth to heaven, when both her soul and her body
were taken into the presence of God.
Although,Scripture does not
give an account of Mary’s Assumption into Heaven, she was closely
associated with all the mysteries of Jesus’ life, definitely she
will be with him in heaven.
Pope Pius XII , on November
1, 1950, declared the Assumption of Mary to be a dogma of faith: “We
pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that
the immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed
the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly
glory.”
The feast of the
Assumption is always a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics, on which
they are obliged to attend holy Mass.
On her feast, let us
ask our Mother to intercede for us.
Happy Feast
